Renewed Hope Development Plan

Renewed Hope Development Plan unveiled by NEC sets Nigeria on a \$1tn economy path by 2030 with inclusive reforms and continuity

Renewed Hope Development Plan has been unveiled by the National Economic Council (NEC) as Nigeria’s blueprint for consolidating reforms and achieving a \$1tn economy by 2030.

At its 151st meeting on Thursday, chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima, NEC approved the framework for the 2026–2030 plan, commending the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning for initiating the process.

The council urged full participation by states and stakeholders to ensure inclusivity and accelerated growth.

The new plan succeeds the National Development Plan (2021–2025) and aligns with the Nigeria Agenda 2050.

According to Shettima, the transition is “no ordinary shift” but a bridge between lessons learned and ambitions pursued.

“This is a practical roadmap towards a \$1tn economy by 2030,” Shettima said, emphasizing continuity and deeper reforms.

Unlike past top-down strategies, the Renewed Hope Development Plan will adopt a participatory approach, engaging state governments, local councils, civil society, private sector players, and traditional institutions.

NEC also highlighted progress in food security, with NASENI scaling up production of solar-powered irrigation pumps.

The Vice President described the initiative as a bold move to cut farmers’ energy costs, boost dry-season farming, and reduce reliance on petrol-powered systems.

Beyond economic targets, NEC called for urgent funding of the national polio immunisation campaign.

It directed the Accountant General of the Federation to fast-track fund releases to ensure a smooth exercise while urging partners to leverage technology in surveillance and tracking.

Shettima reaffirmed NEC’s role as a solution-driven platform rather than a ceremonial one. “Let this meeting be remembered not just for issues raised but for the resolve shown moving from rhetoric to result,” he said.

The unveiling of the Renewed Hope Development Plan signals the administration’s determination to build a resilient economy, create sustainable jobs, and improve citizens’ welfare as Nigeria pushes toward its trillion-dollar milestone.
