Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Olayemi Cardoso has met with Gabriel Muricca Galípolo, the head of Brazil’s central bank, to explore new opportunities for economic and financial collaboration.

The talks took place during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s state visit to Brazil and formed a key part of a broader mission by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to engage with the Banco Central do Brasil.

The visit featured high-level and technical meetings focused on monetary policy, regulatory cooperation, and financial stability.

Cardoso emphasized the importance of knowledge-sharing between the two central banks, especially in areas like payments systems, fintech innovation, and mobile money.

“Nigeria is building a more resilient financial system to attract capital, harness diaspora remittances, and create a stable environment where trade and investment can thrive,” Cardoso stated.

He praised Brazil’s leadership in financial inclusion, noting that Nigeria’s dynamic fintech ecosystem also offers valuable lessons.

A powerful highlight of the discussions was Cardoso’s reference to Brazil’s large Afro-Brazilian population—the world’s biggest African diaspora outside the continent.

“This community represents not only a cultural bridge but a powerful economic connection that can expand remittance flows,” Cardoso added.

Governor Galípolo welcomed the collaboration and expressed optimism about future cooperation.

“These discussions are key to supporting financial stability and shared prosperity between our two nations,” he said.
