Liverpool leads Premier League with perfect start after Szoboszlai’s free-kick

Man City struggles as Reds top table after Arsenal win

Liverpool holds a perfect record after Dominik Szoboszlai’s stunning free-kick secured a 1-0 win over Arsenal as Man City falters early this Premier League season

Liverpool remains the only Premier League club with a flawless record after three games, thanks to Dominik Szoboszlai’s brilliant free-kick that sealed a 1-0 victory over title rivals Arsenal at Anfield.

The win highlighted Liverpool’s fearless approach, with Szoboszlai admitting he took a “risk” by striking powerfully to become the first player to score against Arsenal this season.

This desire to chase victory rather than settle for draws sets the Reds apart from their rivals.

Despite undergoing a major squad overhaul after last season’s title triumph, Liverpool’s ability to clinch late winners has propelled them to the top of the table.

Arsenal, conversely, were cautious and missed a chance to deal an early psychological blow in the title race.

Liverpool’s defense, previously vulnerable—conceding twice against Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, and Newcastle held firm against the Gunners, limiting their opportunities.

“At the end of the game, I said we have to find a way to win these big matches,” said Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.

Meanwhile, Manchester City’s title defense looks shaky after a 2-1 loss at Brighton, their second defeat in three matches.

Pep Guardiola’s costly squad revamp, which included £180 million in winter signings and another £140 million during the summer window, has yet to translate into consistent performances.

City took an early lead through Erling Haaland but collapsed as Brighton fought back, with midfielder Rodri acknowledging the team’s shortcomings.

“We are Manchester City and we come here to win, but this is the reality… We have to raise the level if we want to compete,” said Rodri.

Elsewhere, Manchester United finally secured their first win of the season in dramatic fashion against Burnley.

The game appeared to be heading towards a stalemate, deepening pressure on manager Ruben Amorim, who had faced criticism after a humiliating League Cup exit.

A VAR review awarded United a 97th-minute penalty, which captain Bruno Fernandes calmly converted to ease the scrutiny on Amorim ahead of the international break.
