Lagos Blue Rail fare cut

Lagos Blue Rail fare cut approved by Governor Sanwo-Olu with 50% slash on September 4, 2025, to mark the Blue Line’s second anniversary

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved a Lagos Blue Rail fare cut of 50 percent, valid only for Thursday, September 4, 2025.

The move comes as part of celebrations marking the second anniversary of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue Line, a flagship project aimed at reshaping urban transportation in the city.

In a statement issued by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Sanwo-Olu thanked riders for embracing the Blue Line and reaffirmed that the rail system belongs to all Lagosians.

“It is your belief in a greater Lagos that makes progress possible,” the governor said.

LAMATA’s Corporate Communication Consultant, Kolawole Ojelabi, noted that the anniversary discount is both a celebration and an invitation for those who have yet to experience the Blue Line.

“If you have not yet experienced the Blue Line, I encourage you to take a ride and see what we have built together,” he said.

Since its launch two years ago, the Blue Line has carried more than five million passengers safely, with trains running every ten minutes and completing over 90 trips daily.

Notably, the system has maintained an unbroken record of zero accidents.

Sanwo-Olu described the rail project as a symbol of progress achieved through dedication and purpose.

“Journeys that once took much longer have become faster and easier,” he said, highlighting the transformative impact of the Blue Line.

The governor concluded with gratitude: “This project belongs to all of us, and it is your trust and support that make it possible.”
