This move is part of Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s commitment to safeguarding lives and improving security across the state.
On Friday, 10 vehicles and 39 motorcycles were officially handed over to the Police, Army, Air Force, and Department of State Services (DSS) in Sokoto, reinforcing the logistical support requested by security agencies to enhance their field operations.
Muhammad Bello Sifawa, Secretary to the State Government, stated that the new assets add to 170 patrol vans previously provided under the current administration’s 9-point agenda focused on security.
He urged agencies to use the vehicles judiciously and called on residents to support security efforts through prayers and actionable intelligence.
Sokoto State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Musa, expressed appreciation for the government’s swift response, assuring that the new vehicles and motorcycles would be deployed strictly for their intended purposes to improve rapid response and patrol coverage, especially in remote and vulnerable areas.
Distribution details show the Police and Army each received four Hilux vans, while the DSS and Air Force got one each. The Army received 20 motorcycles, the Police 15, and the Air Force four.
The Sokoto Security Vehicles initiative aims to sustain pressure on bandit gangs and improve community safety in a state frequently challenged by cattle rustling, kidnappings, and violent attacks in hard-to-reach areas.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration has also established the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps, equipped with patrol vans and motorcycles to complement formal security structures.
