Apetu of Ipetumodu crown missing after monarch’s U.S. fraud conviction, sparking fears of cultural and spiritual crisis in Osun State

Apetu of Ipetumodu is facing a deepening crisis as the ancient crown and royal beads of the throne have reportedly disappeared, compounding the troubles of embattled monarch Oba Joseph Oloyede.

The sacred items were allegedly removed from his residence which has been serving as a temporary palace since the original structure was demolished by close aides and loyalists.

Community sources claim a woman and select confidants were instructed to evacuate the crown and beads under unclear circumstances.

This development comes just two weeks after a U.S. court sentenced Oba Oloyede to 56 months in prison for his role in a $4.2 million COVID-19 fraud.

Leaders of the ancient Ipetumodu community warn that the disappearance of the crown poses a grave cultural and spiritual risk.

“The crown is missing, and those behind it don’t know the danger they are courting. They risk invoking the fury of the deities of this ancient land.

It is in their best interest to return the crown and beads before it’s too late,” a chieftain from one of the ruling houses cautioned.

The scandal has fueled growing agitation for Oloyede’s replacement among princes and ruling houses eager to restore dignity to the stool.

During a visit to Ipetumodu, reporters observed that while markets and streets remained active, conversations were hushed and the atmosphere tense with locals preoccupied by the missing crown, the monarch’s conviction, and the uncertain future of the throne.
