Bamidele Akingboye, former SDP governorship candidate, dies at 60 in Lagos amid domestic violence allegations, prompting police investigation and public outcry

Bamidele Akingboye, former Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in Ondo State, has died at his Victoria Garden City residence in Lagos at the age of 60.

The late politician, also CEO of Benshore Maritime and Clog Oil Systems, and President of WeAfrica Group, passed away last Wednesday, according to his personal assistant and media adviser, Oyeniyi Iwakun.

He described Akingboye as a man of integrity, a philanthropist, and a visionary leader who made significant contributions to his community.

However, sources have alleged that his death was not natural but resulted from domestic violence. One source told SaharaReporters that Akingboye was allegedly pushed off a balcony by one of his wives.

Images circulating online reportedly show bruises and deep cuts on his head and neck.

Police authorities confirmed that a discreet investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances of his death, vowing to leave no stone unturned.

Activists, civil society groups, and concerned Nigerians have called for a thorough inquiry, warning against any attempts to cover up the incident.
