Boko Haram attack kills dozens in Darul Jamal, Borno State, as insurgents target resettled community and leave scores dead and wounded

A suspected Boko Haram attack has left dozens dead in Darul Jamal, a community in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.

The assault occurred at about 9:00 p.m. on Friday, according to local and security sources. Darul Jamal was only recently resettled by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum after residents had spent years as internally displaced persons (IDPs).

One grieving resident from the Bama Emirate Council said, “It’s a very sad day. I’m outside my house receiving condolences because my son and brother were killed.

We counted 63 corpses, and many more people were wounded.”

Survivors report that the attackers targeted a school sheltering returnee IDPs, the motor park, and nearby homes. Houses and vehicles were also set ablaze during the coordinated raid.

Witnesses say insurgents opened fire indiscriminately on IDPs, drivers, laborers, and even security posts.

At least 63 people are confirmed dead, with the toll expected to rise as critically wounded victims continue to fight for their lives.

Some of the injured have been evacuated to Maiduguri for treatment, while others are being cared for in Bama.

Residents fear the insurgents’ motive is to prevent the community from being resettled. For many survivors, the attack has reopened the wounds of displacement they had only just begun to heal.
