APC chairman’s wife kidnapped

Gunmen kidnap APC chairman’s wife and daughter in Kwara’s Patigi LGA, highlighting the rising insecurity in northern Nigeria

APC chairman’s wife kidnapped — again, insecurity has struck Kwara State as suspected kidnappers abducted the wife and daughter of Alhaji Muhammad Swasun, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Patigi Local Government Area.

The victims, Hajiya Fatima and her daughter Amina, were seized in a late-night attack on Sunday in Sakpefu, a community within Patigi.

According to eyewitness reports, five armed men scaled the fence into Swasun’s compound around midnight and began firing shots into the air, creating panic before storming into one of the rooms where the women were sleeping.

“They found his wife and daughter and took them away at gunpoint,” a source within the APC state executive council told Vanguard.

The source, who preferred to remain anonymous, said the chairman was fortunate to escape abduction himself.

“He told me this morning that he was lucky not to have been taken too,” the party official said.

The gunmen reportedly operated uninterrupted for several minutes before escaping with the victims to an unknown location.

When contacted, Kwara State Police Commissioner, Mr. Adekimi Ojo, claimed he had not been briefed on the situation.

“I’m yet to be informed,” Ojo said in response to inquiries about the abduction.

The abduction adds to a troubling wave of kidnappings in Kwara North, particularly in Patigi, where communities have repeatedly raised alarms over escalating insecurity.

This latest kidnapping has not only rattled the local community but also sent shockwaves through the state’s political circles.

The attack on a high-profile political figure’s family underscores how banditry and kidnapping have become indiscriminate, affecting both ordinary citizens and political elites.

Calls are growing for the federal and state governments to intensify efforts to tackle kidnapping and restore security to the region.

As of the time of this report, there have been no official claims of responsibility and no ransom demands made public.

Residents fear for the safety of the victims and are urging law enforcement agencies to act swiftly to rescue Hajiya Fatima and Amina before more lives are endangered.
