NSCDC Kwara security steps up with 24-hour surveillance, protecting Ilorin metropolis, critical assets, and religious gatherings

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has commenced 24-hour security surveillance across Kwara State, focusing on Ilorin metropolis and the protection of critical national assets, the corps’ new Commandant, Bala Bawa Bodinga, announced on Thursday.

Bodinga, who assumed leadership of the state command on Monday, said the initiative follows directives from the Commandant-General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, to strengthen operational effectiveness and public confidence in the state’s security architecture.

“The security blueprint under my watch will be intelligence-driven, combining visible patrols with discreet operational measures,” Bodinga stated.

“By the grace of God, all necessary mechanisms have been put in place to protect critical national assets and infrastructure in Kwara State, as well as lives and property.”

The commandant confirmed that patrols in Ilorin have become continuous, particularly at night.

“There has not been a single night without patrol since I assumed duty,” he said, highlighting the corps’ commitment to round-the-clock vigilance.

Addressing unrest in areas such as Kaiama, Bodinga said additional personnel had been deployed to reinforce stability.

He also stressed enhanced security for religious gatherings, mandating that Friday Jumu’ah prayers and Sunday church services maintain adequate security coverage.

The commandant further highlighted inter-agency collaboration as a key priority, emphasising intelligence sharing and joint operations with other security outfits.

He underlined the importance of professional training for officers, including technical and operational drills that will not be publicly disclosed.

“All modalities for VIP protection have been activated. We are ready to respond to requests, but we ask for time to fully deploy our resources,” Bodinga added.

Reaffirming his commitment, he urged residents to support the corps with credible information, promising visible improvements in security across the state.

Bodinga succeeds Dr Umar J.G. Mohammed, who served as NSCDC Commandant in Kwara for approximately two years.

His deployment forms part of a strategic national reshuffle aimed at reinforcing security operations nationwide.
