Lagos DSVA domestic violence training equips over 70 community leaders with skills to prevent abuse and support survivors in Orile-Agege

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) organised a sensitisation programme for community leaders in the Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area, aiming to strengthen efforts to curb domestic and sexual violence.

A statement released on the government’s X page on Tuesday said over 70 members of the Community Development Committee (CDC) were selected to participate.

The session focused on educating leaders on their responsibilities in prevention, early intervention, and supporting survivors.

The programme provided guidance on recognising forms of abuse, identifying warning signs, and using appropriate reporting channels.

Participants were also trained on how to safely support survivors and liaise with authorities to ensure timely intervention.

HAK Oderinde, CDC Chairman, encouraged attendees to not only absorb the training but to share the knowledge within their communities.

“Community leaders in Orile-Agege LCDA came together for a sensitisation session focused on strengthening awareness and response to domestic and sexual violence within their communities,” the statement read.

Interactive sessions covered confidential reporting, handling sensitive family cases, and accessing support services. Attendees were provided with the DSVA toll-free line and urged to promote it widely.

The programme concluded with a renewed commitment from CDC members to champion prevention efforts and foster safer communities.

Officials said the training reflects Lagos State’s ongoing dedication to equipping local leaders with practical tools to combat domestic and sexual violence effectively.
