Aero Contractors Refunds soar to N257m in 2025, a 137% rise as NCAA enforces strict compliance with consumer protection rules in Nigeria’s aviation sector

Figures released by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) on its official X account on Saturday showed the airline processed refunds worth N257,195,724.39 this year, against N108,308,037.40 in 2024 and N32,766,652.30 in 2023.

The airline also revealed that it spent N6,083,229 on hotel accommodation for passengers affected by disruptions between January and July 2025.

Verified records covered stays at Cocos Hotel and Grand Cubana Hotel in Abuja, NOCY Castle Hotel and Kim Royal Hotel, JC42 Apartment in Asaba, and Mayor & Diplomat Hotel in Lagos.

This development comes as part of the NCAA’s drive to enforce strict consumer protection under Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023, which compels airlines to process refunds promptly and fairly.

Earlier in July, NCAA Director-General Musa Nuhu held a meeting with domestic carriers, warning that delayed refunds and compensation for disrupted flights would no longer be tolerated.

Non-compliance, he cautioned, could attract fines or even suspension of operations.

“The figures above show that there is a remarkable improvement in compliance with Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023,” Aero Contractors noted in its statement.

While acknowledging challenges facing the aviation sector, the NCAA reiterated its commitment to defending consumer rights, saying: “The Authority will continue to protect the rights of all stakeholders.”
