Olubunmi Kuku ACI Africa election as Vice-President earns praise from President Tinubu, who applauds FAAN’s growing global aviation reputation

Olubunmi Kuku ACI Africa appointment has drawn presidential commendation after the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) was elected Vice-President of the Airports Council International (ACI) Africa region.

President Bola Tinubu congratulated Kuku on Friday through a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, lauding her leadership and FAAN’s strides in elevating Nigeria’s aviation standards.

Kuku’s election was ratified during the 34th ACI Africa General Assembly held in Lusaka, Zambia, which concluded on 19 September 2025.

Her new position comes after years of active leadership within the global aviation body, having previously served as Regional Advisor for Africa and as a permanent member of the ACI World Governing Board.

“The President notes the sustained efforts and commitment of the FAAN management to making air transport in Nigeria safe, efficient, and reflective of the highest standards, which has attracted global recognition and commendations,” the statement read.

President Tinubu also praised Kuku’s dedication and foresight, calling her election a testament to Nigeria’s increasing influence in international aviation governance.

Founded in 1991, ACI is the global trade organisation for airports, with over 2,000 members across 170 countries and territories.

It plays a central role in shaping aviation policy, developing industry standards, and promoting best practices.

Kuku’s election is widely seen as a win for Nigeria’s aviation industry, which has worked in recent years to rebuild credibility and secure stronger participation on the world stage.
