Victor Boniface faces scrutiny at Werder Bremen over cryptic and humorous social media posts, prompting a meeting with club officials amid growing backlash

Werder Bremen forward Victor Boniface has been summoned by club officials following a series of controversial and cryptic social media posts that reportedly unsettled the Bundesliga side.

The 24-year-old Nigerian, who joined Bremen on loan from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, has made headlines off the pitch for his unusual and often humorous online activity.

According to reports from German outlets EXPRESS and BILD, Boniface must now “report to the bosses” at Bremen for an internal discussion.

The drama began when Boniface shared an image of his damaged car mirror on Snapchat, followed by a more widely-discussed Instagram story in which he wrote:

“If you waste your money on too many women, you will not achieve anything in life. Find yourself one or two women and settle down. At most three women, or if you are going through a lot, four is also okay.”

While Nigerian fans are familiar with Boniface’s sarcastic humour, German fans and the Bremen hierarchy reportedly found the posts “strange” and potentially unprofessional.

Club executives are said to be seeking clarity in a private meeting, with both parties expected to handle the matter internally.

The viral post caught the attention of Canadian rapper Drake, who replied with a laughing emoji. Boniface responded cheekily:

“Bro, DM for more advice.”

Though light-hearted, the interaction attracted mixed reactions, especially among German fans who questioned the striker’s focus.

Boniface has also clashed with critics online. When one follower accused him of “killing his own career” with online antics, the striker hit back by mocking her wig — a response that quickly went viral, sparking debate over whether footballers should ignore online trolls or defend themselves.

Despite the off-field distractions, Boniface has shown glimpses of promise on the pitch.

He debuted with an assist in Bremen’s 4–0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach, but followed up with a quiet performance in a 3–0 loss to Freiburg.

Head coach Horst Steffen offered mixed feedback, saying:

“He was too much everywhere. It should be the case that he stays more in the centre. It was not as I wanted.”

Nevertheless, Steffen praised the striker’s intensity in training, suggesting that Boniface remains in contention for the starting XI ahead of their next clash with Bayern Munich.

Boniface, who had a transfer to AC Milan fall through due to medical concerns in the past, says he chose the number 44 shirt at Bremen because his favourite number, 22, was already taken by defender Julian Malatini.
