Kano NSCDC arrests 19 suspected vandals in three days, recovering cables and tools, pledging stronger action to protect public infrastructure

Commandant Bala Bodinga, who briefed journalists at the state headquarters, said the suspects were picked up in Madobi, Tudunwada, Gwale, Minjibir, and Kumbotso local government areas following intelligence-led patrols and surveillance.

He explained that the arrests were linked to unlawful acts, including tampering with electrical installations, communication cables, drainage slabs, and other public utilities.

Illegal substances were also recovered during the operations.

According to Bodinga, seized exhibits included several rolls of aluminium cables worth tens of thousands of naira, 6.1kg of transformer armoured cables, two rolls of sukudai, a short spear known locally as Dan bida, rubber solution (sholusho), a motorcycle, a broken soldering iron, five shovels, and five diggers.

The commandant confirmed that the suspects have been profiled and thoroughly investigated, with plans underway to prosecute them.

“These arrests are a clear warning to all those who derive pleasure in sabotaging our commonwealth by destroying critical infrastructure,” he said.

He stressed that vandalism not only inflicts heavy economic losses but also endangers citizens and slows development.

To curb such crimes, Bodinga said the NSCDC would intensify patrols, strengthen intelligence gathering, and work closely with sister security agencies, traditional rulers, and community stakeholders.

He further urged residents to support the corps by providing timely and useful information to help protect collective assets.

The crackdown underlines Kano NSCDC’s determination to make vandals and economic saboteurs “have no hiding place” in the state.
