E1 Lagos Grand Prix brings Africa’s first all-electric boat race to Lagos from Oct 3–5, highlighting innovation, sustainability, and global prestige

E1 Lagos Grand Prix is set to make history from 3–5 October as Africa’s first-ever all-electric powerboat championship, with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu inviting residents and global visitors to witness the high-speed spectacle on Lagos waters.

In a statement shared via his official social media channels on Monday, the governor described the event as a “demonstration of innovation and progress,” positioning Lagos as a pioneer in sustainable sport and urban development.

“The E1 Lagos Grand Prix is a celebration of the creativity and resilience that define our people. It’s also a chance to show the world Lagos’ readiness to lead Africa into a more sustainable future,” Sanwo-Olu said.

The E1 Grand Prix is the world’s first electric powerboat championship, and Lagos now joins elite global host cities including Monaco, Venice, and Jeddah.

The event is expected to draw significant international attention, placing Lagos firmly on the global sports and innovation map.

According to organisers, the Lagos edition will feature the planet’s fastest electric raceboats, offering an exhilarating view of speed and cutting-edge marine engineering—powered entirely by clean energy.

Sanwo-Olu urged members of the public to secure tickets via www.e1lagos.com, describing the Grand Prix as a “landmark moment for Lagos and the continent.”

He also emphasised the broader goals of the event: to inspire youth, promote green innovation, and attract global investment to Lagos’ emerging blue economy.

“This is not just sport — it’s a bold statement about Lagos’ future,” the governor said.
