Chelsea Liverpool injury crisis deepens as Enzo Maresca loses eight key players ahead of Premier League showdown at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea Liverpool injury crisis has dealt a major blow to manager Enzo Maresca as the Blues prepare to host Premier League leaders Liverpool at Stamford Bridge this evening.

Maresca confirmed that eight players will miss the crucial encounter due to injuries and suspension, leaving his squad severely depleted.
Among the absentees are central defenders Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana, Tosin Adarabioyo, and Trevoh Chalobah, the latter ruled out through suspension.
The defensive crisis means 19-year-olds Josh Acheampong and Jorrel Hato could be thrust into the starting lineup to face Liverpool’s lethal attack.
Midfielders Cole Palmer, Dario Essugo, and Andrey Santos are also unavailable, further limiting Maresca’s tactical flexibility.
The Italian manager attributed the string of injuries to fatigue from the Club World Cup campaign, noting that his team had just 20 days of rest following the tournament.
“We’ve had little recovery time since the Club World Cup, and that’s definitely affected the players physically,” Maresca said.
Despite the setback, Maresca maintained a note of optimism, insisting Chelsea could still compete against the league leaders.
“Liverpool are vulnerable but still dangerous,” he said. “We have to be sharp, disciplined, and take our chances.”
Liverpool, managed by Arne Slot, arrive in London after back-to-back defeats to Crystal Palace and Galatasaray but still sit top of the Premier League table. They too have injury concerns, with goalkeeper Alisson sidelined.
Slot’s side, however, remain a serious attacking threat, boasting stars like Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo, who will look to capitalise on Chelsea’s weakened defence.
Recent meetings between the two sides have been closely contested. In their last five clashes, Chelsea have recorded one win, one draw, and three defeats, including a 4–1 loss at Anfield last season.

Kick-off is at 5:30 PM at Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea will be hoping to overcome their mounting injury crisis and secure a morale-boosting result against the title favourites.
