EFCC and Customs strengthen collaboration to fight money laundering, smuggling, and economic sabotage across Nigeria through joint operations and intelligence sharing.

EFCC and Customs collaboration is set to intensify as both agencies reaffirmed their commitment to fighting money laundering, smuggling, and other economic crimes threatening Nigeria’s financial stability.

This renewed synergy was formalised on Monday during a courtesy visit by Comptroller G.I. Aliyu, the newly-appointed Customs Area Controller for the Oyo/Osun Command, to the Acting Director of the EFCC Ibadan Zonal Office, ACE I Hauwa Ringim.

The visit, confirmed in a statement by EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, in Ibadan on Wednesday, marks a strategic step towards consolidating inter-agency cooperation.

Aliyu stated, “The NCS, as a critical revenue-generating body, shares the EFCC’s vision of curbing money laundering, trade-based financial crimes, and smuggling — all of which threaten Nigeria’s economic development.”

Describing the collaboration as “indispensable,” the Comptroller noted that the mandates of both agencies overlap in several areas.

These include intercepting illicit financial flows, enforcing fiscal regulations, and dismantling economic sabotage networks.

He commended EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede for his leadership and notable progress in asset recovery, enforcement, and public sensitisation.

“These efforts mirror the Customs Service’s own values of integrity, professionalism, and accountability,” he said.

In her response, Ringim welcomed the initiative, stating that inter-agency collaboration is vital for national progress.

She affirmed the EFCC’s readiness to pursue joint task force operations, intelligence exchange, and continuous strategic engagement with the NCS.

“This partnership strengthens our fight against economic sabotage and ensures a safer, more transparent financial system for Nigeria,” she concluded.
