NNPCL posts N4.26 trillion revenue

NNPCL posts N4.26 trillion revenue, 1.61mbpd crude output in Sept 2025, citing maintenance as reason for slight production decline

LAGOS — The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has reported a revenue of N4.26 trillion alongside a profit after tax of N216 billion for September 2025, according to its monthly report released yesterday.

Despite producing 1.61 million barrels per day (mbpd) of crude oil and condensate during the period, the output reflected a slight decline from August’s 1.64 mbpd.

Industry experts attribute this dip primarily to scheduled upstream maintenance activities undertaken in September.

In addition to crude oil, NNPCL also produced 5,284 million metric standard cubic feet of gas during the month under review.

NNPCL’s downstream operations showed strong performance, with retail outlets recording 77% availability of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

The company also disclosed that it has made a cumulative N10.07 trillion in statutory payments from January to August 2025.

The report highlighted significant advancements on key pipeline infrastructure projects. The Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben (OB3) pipeline has reached 96% completion, while the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) pipeline stands at 88% completion

Work on the AKK pipeline is focused on completing the mainline works, with substantial progress recorded. Meanwhile, for OB3, revised execution strategies are in place to ensure timely delivery, with a 113km portion already commissioned and flowing approximately 300 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscf/d) of gas.

The report noted that production was temporarily moderated due to planned maintenance activities across upstream assets, including those connected to the Nigeria LNG (NLNG) network. This maintenance coincided with the phased recovery of previously shut-in assets and delays in operations resumption at Oil Mining Leases (OMLs) 71 and 72.

Industry insiders have praised this approach, emphasising that maintenance is critical for infrastructure integrity and long-term production resilience.

A credible source, who wished to remain anonymous, said:

“You don’t build resilience by pushing volume only; you build it by maintaining the integrity of your assets.”

Another senior official added that with maintenance nearing completion, stakeholders can anticipate a production rebound in crude oil and gas in the final quarter of the year.

NNPCL’s proactive maintenance and production recovery initiatives underscore its commitment to sustaining industry collaboration and positioning Nigeria’s energy sector for more consistent and secure output in the months ahead.
