Dangote Group denies

Dangote Group denies ownership of truck in Akungba-Akoko accident that killed eight, clarifying it belongs to an independent logistics firm.

Dangote Group Akungba-Akoko accident — The Dangote Group has strongly denied reports claiming one of its trucks was involved in a fatal road accident that claimed eight lives in Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State.

The company issued a statement on Thursday, clarifying that the truck involved in the crash — identified by its number plate JJJ 365 XB — does not belong to Dangote Group or any of its subsidiaries.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) earlier confirmed that the tragic collision between a truck and a commercial bus occurred in Akoko South-West Local Government Area, resulting in multiple fatalities.

FRSC’s Public Education Officer in the state, Abiola Fadumo, stated that the incident happened when the truck rammed into a bus, leading to the deaths of eight passengers.

In its official statement released via X (formerly Twitter), Dangote Group emphasised that vehicle registration details revealed the truck was owned and operated by an independent logistics company, entirely unaffiliated with the conglomerate.

“Dangote Group has refuted reports circulating on social media and some online platforms linking it to a truck involved in a road accident in Akungba-Akoko. The truck does not belong to Dangote Group or any of its subsidiaries,” the company said.’

It explained that the truck was conveying crushed stones in reused sacks that happened to bear various brand names, but none were related to Dangote products.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the truck was not conveying any Dangote products but was transporting crushed stones in reused sacks,” the statement added.

Dangote Industries further outlined that all its genuine trucks are properly branded, tracked, and managed under a centralised fleet management system, ensuring safety, compliance, and accountability.

“All genuine Dangote trucks carry distinct company markings and fleet numbers, making them easily identifiable,” the Group stressed.

While expressing sympathy for the victims of the Akungba-Akoko accident, the company cautioned against misinformation and the use of images of Dangote-branded vehicles in unrelated incidents.

“The company deeply sympathises with those affected but urges the public and media to verify information before attributing ownership or involvement to Dangote Group,” it said.

Dangote Industries reaffirmed its commitment to road safety, corporate responsibility, and regulatory compliance, pledging to continue working with relevant authorities to enhance public safety.

“Dangote Industries remains steadfast in its commitment to road safety, regulatory compliance, and responsible corporate citizenship across all its operations,” the statement concluded.
