Tinubu nominates Kingsley Tochukwu-Udeh as minister to replace Uche Nnaji, restoring Enugu’s representation in the Federal Executive Council.

Tinubu nominates Kingsley Tochukwu-Udeh as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, forwarding his name to the Senate for confirmation.

The nomination was contained in a letter read on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday by President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, during plenary.

President Bola Tinubu said the move followed the provisions of Section 147 (2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers him to appoint ministers subject to Senate approval.

“I am pleased to forward to the Senate the nomination of Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu-Udeh, SAN, for confirmation as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the letter read in part.

Tinubu expressed hope that the Senate would give the request **expeditious consideration**, describing Udeh as a capable legal mind and a distinguished public servant.

The nomination follows the resignation of the former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, who stepped down last month amid controversy over his academic credentials and NYSC discharge certificate.

Nnaji’s exit left Enugu State without representation in the Federal Executive Council — a constitutional requirement mandating one minister per state.

Dr. Udeh, currently the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice of Enugu State, was recently conferred with the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN). His nomination marks a decisive effort by President Tinubu to restore Enugu’s representation and maintain constitutional balance across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

Senate President Akpabio, after reading the letter, referred the nomination to the Committee of the Whole for immediate screening and confirmation.

Observers in Abuja view the move as part of Tinubu’s broader strategy to sustain political stability and strengthen his cabinet’s regional inclusiveness.
