EFCC arrests vote buyers in Anambra election as operatives detain three suspects for allegedly offering cash to influence voters at polling units

EFCC nabs vote buyers during Saturday’s governorship election in Anambra State as operatives apprehended three individuals for allegedly attempting to influence voters with cash inducements.

The suspects, identified as Emeka Ilokasia, Nwachukwu Loretta, and Emuka Chuwudi, were arrested in separate operations conducted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission across the state.

According to a statement by the EFCC, Ilokasia was caught at Ward 2 in Njikoka Local Government Area, Loretta at Ward 2 (008) in Awkuzu, Oyi Local Government, and Chuwudi at Umunachi village in Dunukofia Local Government Area.

The agency explained that the arrests were part of a broader monitoring exercise aimed at curbing financial malpractices and vote buying during the electoral process.

An EFCC official said the commission had deployed several teams across strategic locations in the state to ensure transparency and deter any acts capable of compromising the integrity of the election.

The commission confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody and will face prosecution once investigations are concluded.

Observers have praised the EFCC’s proactive stance, noting that the operation reinforces public confidence in the ongoing efforts to uphold free and fair elections in Nigeria.
