FCT police arrest bandit suspect Ahmed Abubakar for allegedly attempting to procure ammunition for Zamfara bandits, authorities say
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old man, Ahmed Abubakar, for allegedly attempting to procure ammunition for bandit groups operating in Zamfara State.

Abubakar, reportedly from Gusau but residing in Anguwan Dodo, Gwagwalada, was taken into custody by operatives of the Mabushi Division on 7 December following what police described as credible intelligence.
Security expert Zagazola Makama said the suspect allegedly contacted a serving soldier, Corporal Yusuf Mohammed, to source 1,000 rounds of ammunition in exchange for a cash reward.
The munitions were purportedly intended for use by bandits in Zamfara.
Makama reported that Abubakar confessed during interrogation that he was acting on instructions from his uncle, Ahmed Yakubu, who resides at the same address but is currently at large.
Authorities recovered N170,100 from Abubakar, believed to be part of the funds designated for the illegal purchase.
The police confirmed that Abubakar remains in custody as investigations continue, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend his uncle.
Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, could not be reached for comment at the time of filing.
The arrest comes amid a spate of attacks and kidnappings carried out by bandit groups in Zamfara and neighbouring states.

In a related development, Edo State Police Command arrested a 42-year-old man, Ogbole Henry, for alleged possession of arms and ammunition in September.
