Tinubu police recruitment begins as PSC and NPF launch portal to hire 50,000 constables nationwide

President Bola Tinubu, in Abuja on 26 November 2025, declared a nationwide security emergency and directed the Police Service Commission and the Nigeria Police Force to recruit 50,000 police constables to strengthen community policing and improve internal security.

The Police Service Commission announced on Thursday that it had opened the recruitment portal, acting on the directive and moving to expand the manpower of the Nigeria Police Force.

Head of Protocol and Public Affairs Torty Kalu said applications would be accepted from eligible Nigerians between 15 December 2025 and 25 January 2026.

Kalu said the recruitment drive marked a decisive step toward rebuilding public safety and increasing police presence across communities.

He described the initiative as a necessary response to rising insecurity and a move that would restore public confidence in national law-enforcement efforts.

The Commission said candidates for the General Duty cadre must hold GCE Ordinary Level or SSCE/NECO qualifications with at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics, obtained in no more than two sittings.

Applicants for the Specialists cadre must present a minimum of four credits, including English and Mathematics, in no more than two sittings, along with at least three years of work experience and relevant trade test certifications.

Kalu added that all applicants must be Nigerian citizens by birth. He said General Duty candidates must be between 18 and 25 years old, while Specialist applicants must fall between 18 and 28. Minimum height requirements are set at 1.67 metres for men and 1.64 metres for women.

The Commission said all applications must be submitted online through the dedicated recruitment portal. It expressed confidence that the process would produce skilled officers capable of contributing meaningfully to national security.
