The Kogi State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Tenimu Etuku, said the accident occurred at Jimgbe Community along the Ajaokuta-Lokoja road in Ajaokuta Local Government Area.
Tenimu Etuku disclosed that 11 other passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rescued by FRSC personnel at the scene.
The injured victims were taken to the Kogi State Specialist Hospital for medical treatment, while the bodies of the four deceased persons were deposited at the hospital’s morgue.
According to the sector commander, the Toyota commercial bus, with Abuja registration number ABC 232 XA, was travelling from Enugu to Abuja before the incident occurred.
Tenimu Etuku explained that the driver reportedly lost control while attempting to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming truck, before crashing into a faulty truck that was stationary on the highway.
Describing the incident as tragic, the FRSC official urged motorists to exercise heightened caution on highways, warning that a free road does not always translate to a safe driving environment.

“There is a clear difference between a free motoring environment and a safe motoring environment,” Etuku said, calling on drivers to remain alert and observant at all times.
