An Oyo community accuses a state lawmaker of allowing destructive Fulani herders unrestricted grazing, sparking outrage over anti-open grazing enforcement
Ayoade Ojeniyi, a resident of Akinyele Local Government Area, has accused a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly of authorising unrestricted grazing for a destructive Fulani herder in the community.

In a detailed complaint, Ojeniyi said the legislator issued a “To Whom It May Concern” letter instructing that a known destructive Fulani herder from Iseyin be allowed unhindered access to graze his cattle, despite existing anti-open grazing laws in Oyo State.
Ojeniyi claimed he spoke with the lawmaker in the presence of the community’s traditional leader for five minutes, during which it became “glaringly obvious” that the legislator intended to ignore enforcement regulations.
“He promised to call back within 24 hours but has refused to do so. These are the people causing problems for our state,” Ojeniyi stated, noting that the herder’s cattle had previously caused extensive damage across the area.
The complainant warned that such actions undermine local governance and anti-open grazing policies, suggesting that some leaders may be compromising the state’s security and agricultural stability.
Ojeniyi called on the Oyo State Government to intervene and ensure that enforcement authorities uphold the law, adding, “God won’t come down to save any nation.”

The legislator has not responded to requests for comment at the time of reporting.
