Super Eagles suspension risk as Ndidi, Onyeka and Bassey face bans if booked against Algeria in AFCON 2025 quarter-final

Nigeria’s Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka and Calvin Bassey are all one yellow card away from suspension ahead of the Super Eagles’ Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final against Algeria on Saturday.

The three players were booked during Nigeria’s 4–0 victory over Mozambique in the Round of 16 and will miss the semi-final if they receive another caution and Nigeria progress past Algeria.

The Nigeria Football Federation confirmed the disciplinary situation as the Super Eagles stepped up preparations for the last-eight tie in Marrakesh.

Midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, Brentford’s Frank Onyeka and defender Calvin Bassey have all played key roles in Nigeria’s run to the quarter-finals, making their availability a critical factor in Saturday’s match.

Should Nigeria defeat Algeria, the Super Eagles will face either Morocco or Cameroon in the semi-finals.

The quarter-final encounter between Nigeria and Algeria will take place at the Marrakech Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 5pm Nigerian time.

The fixture is expected to be one of the tournament’s most intense contests, given the long-standing rivalry between both sides and the high stakes involved.
