ALAT By Wema upgrade introduces smarter features, AI assistant, and faster digital banking, redefining Africa’s first fully digital bank

Wema Bank is set to launch an upgraded version of its digital banking platform, ALAT, in January 2026, marking another milestone in Africa’s financial innovation.

Branded ALAT: The Evolution, the new platform aims to enhance user experience with faster interactions, more intuitive design, and personalised services.

Since its launch in 2017 as Africa’s first fully digital bank, ALAT has transformed how millions access and manage their finances.

The upgraded platform introduces SAW (Smart ALAT by Wema), an AI-powered assistant designed to understand user behaviour and provide smarter banking solutions.

“ALAT: The Evolution represents a thoughtful upgrade of everything our users love about ALAT. We’ve redesigned it to feel more responsive, intuitive, and personal, showing how far digital banking has come,” said a Wema Bank spokesperson.

The upgrade reflects Wema Bank’s commitment to continuous innovation in the banking sector, reaffirming its position as a pioneer in digital banking solutions.
