Chinese government footage released of his arrest shows heightened security measures, underscoring the severity of the case.
Chen Zhi allegedly ran large-scale “pig butchering” scams, laundered money through dozens of shell companies and a legitimate conglomerate, and forced hundreds of people from multiple countries into labour under false employment pretences.
These victims were reportedly coerced into participating in fraudulent schemes, according to law enforcement sources.
Chinese authorities have described Chen’s activities as “organized and multi-layered criminal operations,” and are treating the case with the highest priority.
Investigators have linked him to multiple counts of financial fraud, human trafficking, and money laundering.
The extradition follows international cooperation between Cambodia and China, highlighting growing cross-border enforcement against high-profile financial crimes.
Authorities in China have promised thorough prosecution, signalling zero tolerance for large-scale financial crimes and exploitation.
