Ogun police arrest 14 in cult initiation crackdown

Ogun cult initiation arrest as police detain 14 suspects and recover weapons vehicles and charms during covert operation in Remo communities

The Ogun State Police Command said on Saturday that its operatives had arrested 14 suspects in connection with an Ogun cult initiation arrest following a coordinated overnight operation in parts of the Remo axis of the state.

Police said the suspects were apprehended around Ipara Remo Ode Remo and Isara Remo during a covert operation triggered by actionable intelligence indicating a planned unlawful assembly linked to suspected cult activities.

According to the police three locally made pistols 11 cartridges four rounds of 9mm Beretta ammunition confraternity caps charms mobile phones and nine vehicles were recovered from the suspects.

Some of the vehicles were reportedly without number plates while others carried unauthorised dealer plates raising further suspicion about their use.

The spokesperson of the command DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi said intelligence received in the early hours of January 24 revealed that suspected members of the Eiye Confraternity had converged at a bush location in Ipara Remo to initiate new members and plan actions capable of breaching public peace.

He said operatives from the Anti Cultism Unit and the Special Weapons and Tactics unit supported by officers from Ipara and Isara divisions carried out a swift sweep that led to the Ogun cult initiation arrest of 13 males and one female.

Babaseyi listed the suspects as Solomon Shobamiwo Farooq Ogunsola Toheeb Abolade Balogun Williams Ayodele Abdulkareem Adedapo Ogunsanya Toheeb Saka Akpan Dara Micheal Olakemi Habeeb Olayinka Dapo Adeola Adetunji Adeyemi Henry Kingsley and Nanso Blessing.

He said the suspects are currently undergoing investigation and will be charged to court upon completion of the process.

The police spokesperson added that ongoing patrols and intelligence led operations have been intensified across the axis to track fleeing suspects and ensure lasting security for residents.

Reacting to the development the Commissioner of Police CP Lanre Ogunlowo condemned what he described as reckless acts capable of disrupting peace and safety in the state.

He urged young people to renounce cultism and criminal associations while assuring residents parents students and stakeholders of the command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property.

The police also encouraged members of the public to report suspicious movements or security concerns through official emergency lines as part of a collective effort to sustain peace in Ogun State.

The Ogun cult initiation arrest underscores the renewed determination of the command to dismantle criminal networks and send a strong warning to groups intent on undermining public order.
