Amotekun’s swift arrest in Ogun stops two alleged cultists, with weapons recovered and investigation now underway

Deputy Corps Commander of the Ogun State Security Network Agency, Col T Bakare (rtd.), confirmed in Abeokuta on 12 December that operatives of the Amotekun Corps had carried out an Amotekun swift arrest of two suspected cultists who had allegedly terrorised residents of Ipokia Local Government area for two months.

The suspects, identified as 23-year-old Rafiu Saheed and 22-year-old Raji Selim, were apprehended late on Wednesday.

Bakare said the operation was the result of sustained intelligence gathering and weeks of surveillance.

He noted that a third suspect, identified as Idowu Ganiu and believed to be around 25, escaped during the interception.

The suspects were arrested at about 11pm in the Owotedo area of Ajegunle Idirorko after operatives intercepted their red unregistered Bajaj Boxer motorcycle along the Ipokia–Idiroko route.

The security team said the group appeared to be on their way to execute a criminal mission.

During the arrest, officers recovered a locally fabricated pistol, a live cartridge and an axe, in addition to the motorcycle.

Bakare described the recovery as a powerful indication of the gang’s intent and warned that their activities had instilled fear in the community over recent weeks.

The suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, where further investigation and prosecution will proceed.

Bakare urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to curb criminal activity across Ogun State.
