Tinubu appeals for forgiveness at Ramadan Tafsir in Abuja, urging Nigerians to embrace peace, love and unity

Addressing worshippers, Tinubu reflected on the spiritual significance of the season and urged citizens to embrace forgiveness and unity.

“Ramadan coincides with Lent, reminding us of our common commitment to sacrifice, discipline, prayer, and self-denial,” the President said.

Tinubu noted that the overlap between the Islamic holy month of Ramadan and the Christian season of Lent highlights shared values across faiths.

“We start this Ramadan with all the teaching that it brings to us all. But the main principle is to do good to people, to share love and faith, and to forgive sins. I say, if I have sinned, forgive me as Nigerians,” he added.

The moment marked a rare and reflective public appeal from the President, drawing attention to the spiritual tone of his address.

Tinubu stressed that fasting should go beyond physical abstinence.

The President said the observance must embody kindness, forgiveness, good deeds and love for humanity.

He also called on Nigerians of all religious backgrounds to pray for peace and support national efforts to tackle terrorism, banditry and insecurity.

Tinubu appeals for forgiveness at a time when the country continues to confront security and economic challenges, framing the holy season as an opportunity for collective renewal and hope.
