Senator Oluremi Tinubu gave the commendation on Monday via her official X handle after receiving the Country Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund, Ms Wafaa Abdelatef, and her delegation in Abuja last Friday.

During the meeting, UNICEF informed the First Lady that in the past two years, the number of children whose births have been officially registered in Nigeria had risen significantly to 14 million.

The First Lady described the progress as a powerful reflection of sustained collaboration among federal and state stakeholders.

“This remarkable achievement reflects our collective commitment to safeguarding the identity and rights of every Nigerian child,” Senator Tinubu stated.

The First Lady extended appreciation to development partners, the 36 State First Ladies, Renewed Hope Initiative coordinators and the Federal Capital Territory coordinator for their dedication to advancing birth registration and child welfare nationwide.

Senator Tinubu also commended stakeholders for notable progress recorded in efforts to eliminate HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, cervical cancer, syphilis, hepatitis B, Female Genital Mutilation, Neglected Tropical Diseases and vaccine-preventable diseases.

The First Lady described the strides as encouraging and urged sustained action to meet global health targets ahead of the 2030 deadline.

“These milestones demonstrate what we can accomplish through collaboration, commitment, and sustained action,” Senator Tinubu said. “Let us not relent.”

Senator Tinubu expressed optimism that continued partnerships would accelerate reforms and deliver stronger protections for vulnerable children across Nigeria.
