Danone Nutricia infant formula recall affects Aptamil and Cow & Gate products over potential cereulide toxin contamination

Danone Nutricia Ireland Ltd has issued Public Alert No. 08/2026 in Dublin on 26 February 2026, announcing a Danone Nutricia infant formula recall involving several batches of Aptamil and Cow & Gate First Infant Milk and Follow-on Milk Formula products due to potential contamination with cereulide toxin.

The company said the precautionary recall was initiated after internal quality control processes identified a possible presence of cereulide, a toxin produced by certain strains of Bacillus cereus.

Cereulide can cause nausea and vomiting and, in rare cases, more serious health complications in infants.

The affected products include specific batches of Aptamil First Infant Milk, Aptamil Follow-on Milk, Cow & Gate First Infant Milk and Cow & Gate Follow-on Milk Formula.

Parents and caregivers have been advised not to use products from the identified batches and to return them to the point of purchase for a full refund.

Danone Nutricia stated that no confirmed cases of illness linked to the recalled batches have been reported at the time of the alert.

The company described the action as a decisive and precautionary measure taken in the interests of consumer safety.

Retailers across Ireland have been instructed to remove the specified batches from shelves immediately.

The company added that other batches and variants of Aptamil and Cow & Gate products are not affected.

Food safety authorities are monitoring the situation and have urged parents who may have purchased the affected products to check batch numbers carefully.

Medical advice should be sought if an infant shows symptoms such as persistent vomiting or signs of dehydration.

In a statement, Danone Nutricia apologised for the disruption caused to families and said it was working closely with regulators to investigate the source of the potential contamination.

The Danone Nutricia infant formula recall is expected to remain in place pending further laboratory analysis and confirmation that products meet stringent safety standards.
