Edo palace chief killed and two daughters abducted in Iduah Kingdom, Esan West; Edo State police launch investigation into the violent attack

Gunmen have killed Chief Jimah Jacob Ogboi, a high-ranking palace chief in Iduah Kingdom, and abducted two of his daughters in a violent attack on Monday night.

Sources said the assailants stormed the chief’s residence and shot him at close range. His wife sustained serious injuries from machetes and other dangerous weapons.

One of the couple’s sons, Lucky Ogboi, reported that he had stepped out when the attack occurred.

“I received a call that my father had been shot. When I returned home, I met my mother in a critical condition, and my two sisters had been taken away,” Lucky said.

The incident prompted an emergency meeting of community elders to discuss securing the release of the abducted daughters and addressing the causes of the attack.

HRH Alhaji Amedu Momoh, the traditional ruler of Iduah Kingdom, appealed to the Edo State Government and security agencies to strengthen security in the area.

“About four armed men went to the house of one of our chiefs. They shot him and abducted two of his daughters. The Nigerian Police and other security agencies have been here since the incident occurred,” the monarch said.

CSP Eno Ikoedem, spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, confirmed the attack and said investigations had commenced.

The Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, and other senior officers are in Ekpoma to manage the security situation and prevent further incidents.

The monarch expressed concern over increasing attacks on farmlands by suspected herdsmen, warning that the community remains at risk until security measures are reinforced.
