Omah Lay breakup Grammys revelation: singer says a two-month relationship ended during the 2025 Grammys, inspiring his song “Don’t Love Me.”
Omah Lay, a Nigerian Afrobeats singer, has revealed that a recent relationship ended while he attended the Grammy Awards earlier this year, describing the experience as an embarrassing heartbreak.

The singer shared the revelation during a listening party for his forthcoming album, Clarity Of Mind, where he told fans that the relationship lasted only two months despite his initial belief that it could become serious.
According to Omah Lay, the breakup unfolded while he was in the United States for the 2025 Grammys in early February.
The artist said the emotional moment occurred while Canadian pop star Justin Bieber was performing on stage.
“Every time I fall in love, I lose myself. While I was at the Grammy and Justin Bieber was performing, I was having a breakup and an embarrassing moment,” the singer told the audience.
Omah Lay explained that relationship problems had already begun before the award ceremony, leaving him unable to focus on the event.
“While I was at the Grammys, I was not present because even before the show I had already started having issues in my relationship. And this was only a two-month-old relationship. But I thought it was the right relationship and I was going to have a baby,” he said.
The singer also admitted that he struggles to balance his music career with romantic relationships.
According to him, the emotional experience later inspired his song Don’t Love Me.
“I don’t know how to do two things at a time. When I am into one thing, all of me is into that. So I wasn’t even present at the Grammys. I didn’t even enjoy anything,” he explained.
Omah Lay added that the song reflects his struggle to maintain relationships while pursuing music.
“So my song ‘Don’t Love Me’ is me saying, girl, let’s enjoy this moment, but as soon as I find another thing that gives me pleasure, I’m going to leave,” he said.
