PSG defeat Chelsea 5–2 in the Champions League as Barcola, Dembele and Kvaratskhelia lead a dominant attacking display in Paris

Paris Saint‑Germain produced a ruthless attacking performance on Wednesday night to defeat Chelsea F.C. 5–2 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 playoff at the Parc des Princes.

The French champions seized early control of the contest, opening the scoring in the 10th minute when Bradley Barcola reacted quickest inside the penalty area following a headed pass from João Neves, firing the hosts into the lead.

Chelsea responded in the 28th minute as Malo Gusto finished confidently after a lofted assist from Enzo Fernández, drawing the English side level at 1–1.

Paris Saint-Germain regained the advantage shortly before the break when Ousmane Dembélé produced a brilliant solo effort in the 40th minute, weaving through the Chelsea defence before finishing from close range.

Chelsea once again pulled level in the 57th minute when Enzo Fernández connected with a pass from Pedro Neto and fired a first-time strike into the net to make it 2–2.

However, the momentum swung decisively back to the hosts. In the 74th minute, Vitinha capitalised on a costly error by Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jørgensen, restoring PSG’s lead.

Substitute Khvicha Kvaratskhelia then delivered a powerful late surge, embarking on a dazzling solo run in the 86th minute before finishing from the edge of the penalty area to extend the advantage to 4–2.

The Georgian winger sealed an emphatic victory deep into stoppage time, calmly scoring again in the 94th minute to complete the scoring and give Paris Saint-Germain a commanding three-goal cushion ahead of the return leg.

Chelsea showed flashes of attacking promise, including a goal from João Pedro that was later ruled out following a VAR review, but defensive lapses ultimately proved costly against PSG’s relentless forward play.

The result leaves Paris Saint-Germain firmly in control of the tie as both sides prepare for the decisive second leg, while Chelsea face a daunting challenge to overturn the deficit and keep their Champions League campaign alive.
