Tinubu visits Jos after deadly Plateau killings

Tinubu Plateau killings visit intensifies as the President heads to Jos and police deploy tactical teams after deadly attacks

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his planned visit to Ogun State to undertake a condolence visit to Jos following recent attacks that left at least 27 people dead.

The decision followed a high-level meeting between the President and Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Caleb Mutfwang briefed Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the worsening security situation in the state.

The Tinubu Plateau killings visit comes amid intensified efforts by security agencies to restore order.

Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu has ordered the deployment of Police Mobile Force units and other tactical teams to Plateau State.

Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga confirmed that the President would visit Jos to commiserate with victims and assess the situation firsthand.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu had earlier condemned the attacks in Jos and parts of Kaduna State, describing them as barbaric and cowardly.

The President also pledged that perpetrators would be brought to justice.

Despite the security presence, tension remains high in parts of Jos. Reports indicate that hoodlums attacked motorists and residents shortly after the relaxation of a curfew imposed in Jos North Local Government Area.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang disclosed that security forces are yet to apprehend the attackers responsible for the killings.

He described the incident as an act of terrorism and criminality that cannot be justified under any religion.

The Tinubu Plateau killings visit coincides with broader security measures, including the evacuation of students from the University of Jos hostels due to safety concerns.

Authorities have also imposed fresh curfew measures in parts of the state to prevent further breakdown of law and order.

The National Youth Service Corps has suspended biometric clearance across all local government areas in Plateau State.

Residents and stakeholders have called for stronger security action, urging authorities to identify and prosecute those behind the attacks.

Analysts say the situation marks a critical moment for decisive intervention in Plateau’s security landscape.

As the Tinubu Plateau killings visit unfolds, attention remains on how swiftly security agencies can restore calm and prevent further violence in the region.
