Lagos dispatch rider tanker crash claims life of rider in Alapere after collision with speeding empty tanker, prompting investigation
A dispatch rider has been killed in a tragic road accident along the Motorways inward Estate axis of Alapere in Lagos State on Monday after a collision with an empty tanker reportedly moving at high speed.

Lagos tanker crash involving dispatch rider occurred when a tanker branded “NIPCO”, bearing registration number TTN-776ZQ, allegedly rammed into the rider, leading to his instant death at the scene.
Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, swiftly arrived at the location to restore order and manage the aftermath of the fatal incident, which attracted a large and angry crowd of fellow dispatch riders.
Tensions briefly rose at the scene as some riders confronted the tanker driver in protest over the crash. LASTMA operatives intervened to prevent further escalation and ensure the safety of those present.
The tanker driver, who sustained injuries in the incident, was rescued by LASTMA officials and handed over to the Lagos State Ambulance Service for urgent medical attention at a nearby hospital.
Police officers from the Alausa Division were also deployed to the area to disperse the crowd and secure the scene, ensuring traffic flow was restored along the busy corridor.
Olalekan Bakare-Oki, General Manager of LASTMA, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and called for greater caution among motorists, particularly heavy-duty vehicle operators.
“This unfortunate incident underscores the urgent need for heightened vigilance and collective responsibility among all road users to safeguard lives,” Olalekan Bakare-Oki said.
The remains of the dispatch rider and the damaged motorcycle have been taken into police custody as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Authorities say efforts are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident and prevent similar tragedies on Lagos roads.
