Abandoned twins rescued in Vandeikya area of Benue State as local task force finds newborn babies dumped in bush and rushes them for urgent medical care

A set of newborn twins has been rescued after being discovered abandoned in a bush in Vandeikya Local Government Area of Benue State, in a case that has sparked widespread outrage and concern.

Benue abandoned twins rescue occurred on Friday in Mbaaji, Ningev Council Ward, an area locally known as “Wangbeen Jor,” when members of a local task force stumbled upon the infants during a routine sanitation exercise.

According to the Chairman of the Local Government Task Force, Chief Daniel Orhembega, the team was moving to dispose of refuse when one member heard faint cries from nearby bushes.

Upon investigation, they discovered the newborn twins wrapped in fresh leaves, alongside a placenta and a gown believed to belong to the mother.

One of the babies was reportedly crying loudly, while the other appeared unusually calm, raising immediate concerns that they had been abandoned shortly after birth.

The infants were swiftly rushed to a nearby clinic, where medical personnel provided urgent care.

Chairman of Vandeikya Local Government Area, Hon. Dennis Terkura Guda, condemned the incident in strong terms, describing it as deeply disturbing and unacceptable.

During a visit to the clinic, Guda assumed responsibility for the babies’ immediate welfare and formally named them Guda-Alia and Alia-Doo, a gesture that drew emotional reactions from local officials.

The twins have since been placed under the custody of the Local Government Welfare Department as investigations continue.

Authorities have also appealed to residents to provide any information that could assist in identifying and locating the mother, as concern grows over maternal abandonment cases in the region.
