Enugu nurse arrested after viral video showing poor conditions at Uwani General Hospital sparks controversy, with police reportedly acting on complaint
A nurse identified as Joy Ezeugwu has been reportedly arrested by the Nigerian police after sharing a viral video exposing poor conditions at Uwani General Hospital in Enugu State.

Viral video leads to arrest of Enugu nurse incident was disclosed by education technologist Alex Onyia in a post on X (formerly Twitter), where he alleged that officers from the Police Force Headquarters Annex in Enugu carried out the arrest.
According to Onyia, the arrest was allegedly prompted by the administrator of Ezzy College of Nursing, Ifeyinwa Peace Okwudu, the nurse’s former school.
The nurse had earlier gained attention after a video surfaced online showing deteriorating conditions at the hospital, including lack of electricity and running water.
Health workers in the video were seen lamenting the impact of the poor facilities on patient care and emergency response services.
Following the viral circulation of the footage, the nurse was reportedly suspended in April.
The hospital administrator later demanded ₦10 million in damages, accusing her of violating privacy laws and secretly recording an internal staff meeting without consent.
The legal representatives of the institution also alleged that staff were instructed not to bring mobile phones into the meeting, claiming the nurse breached those instructions.
The arrest has sparked conversations online about whistleblowing, workplace rights, and the treatment of healthcare workers in public facilities.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities have not released an official statement confirming the details of the arrest.
