Imo State Police Command has launched coordinated search and rescue operations following the reported abduction of a 17-year-old Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) student, Miss Mary Ezinwayi Uzoma, along the FUTO/Ihiagwa Road in Owerri West Local Government Area.

Imo Police step up search after kidnap of FUTO student, operation was activated after the 100-level Microbiology student was allegedly taken by unidentified armed men in the area, prompting immediate deployment of security personnel and local vigilantes to comb surrounding bushes and adjoining communities.
Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, confirmed in a statement that the Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso, has directed the Anti-Kidnapping Unit to take charge of the investigation and intensify intelligence-led operations aimed at securing the victim’s release and apprehending those responsible.
According to the command, proactive measures have been reinforced across the FUTO axis, including increased patrols, surveillance, and visible policing in nearby communities to prevent further incidents and reassure residents.
The police assured students, university authorities, and members of the public of their safety, urging them to remain calm and continue their lawful activities while investigations continue.

The statement further reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, while encouraging anyone with useful information to report to the nearest police station or contact the emergency line provided by the authorities.
