German paediatrician abuse charges emerge as prosecutors accuse doctor of 130 sexual offences involving children in Brandenburg

A paediatrician in Germany has been charged with 130 counts of rape and other serious sexual offences involving children, prosecutors in Brandenburg state announced on Wednesday.

According to the public prosecutor’s office in Potsdam, the unidentified suspect allegedly committed the offences over a 12-year period while working for healthcare provider Havelland Kliniken.

Prosecutors said the accused faces 130 charges linked to sexual offences committed against children, including allegations of aggravated sexual abuse and rape.

“The accused is charged with 130 counts of sexual offences,” the Potsdam public prosecutor’s office stated.

“These include, among other things, allegations of aggravated sexual abuse of children and rape.”

The German Paediatrician Abuse Charges relate to alleged offences said to have occurred between December 1, 2013 and November 5, 2025.

Authorities said many of the alleged crimes were committed while the suspect carried out professional duties at clinics in Rathenow and Nauen.

The charges, which prosecutors disclosed publicly on Wednesday, were officially filed on May 6.

The accused remains in pretrial detention, while the case has now been transferred to the regional court in Potsdam for further proceedings.

German newspaper Bild reported that the suspect, now aged 46, was arrested in November 2025 after the mother of a female patient at a hospital in Rathenow alerted police authorities.

Investigators reportedly seized several data storage devices during the operation as part of the ongoing investigation.

The allegations have drawn comparisons with another high-profile abuse case in France involving retired surgeon Joel Le Scouarnec.

In May 2025, a French court sentenced Le Scouarnec to 20 years in prison after he admitted sexually abusing or raping 298 patients between 1989 and 2014.

More than 250 of the victims in the French case were reportedly under the age of 15.

The latest case in Germany has intensified public concern over child safeguarding and oversight within healthcare institutions, particularly where vulnerable minors are involved.
