Pastor Dolapo Lawal calls relocation abroad “modern slavery”

Pastor Dolapo Lawal has described relocation abroad as modern slavery, claiming many Nigerians migrate to survive rather than become wealthy

Nigerian pastor Dolapo Lawal has sparked debate after describing relocation abroad by Nigerians as a form of “modern slavery,” during a recent sermon.

The televangelist made the remarks while addressing migration trends, particularly the large number of Nigerians who move abroad in search of better economic opportunities.

He claimed that many migrants end up taking up caregiving and other demanding jobs abroad in order to survive rather than build wealth.

According to him, financial success is more achievable in Nigeria than in many foreign countries where Nigerians migrate.

“How many people you know that are in the UK who are billionaires,” he said.

“They go there to survive. They don’t go there to be rich.”

He further argued that many migrants struggle to achieve financial stability abroad and often take on survival jobs to meet basic needs.

The cleric also criticised the decision of some Nigerians who sell assets to relocate, insisting that such moves are often not financially wise.

He urged Nigerians to reconsider migration ambitions and focus on creating wealth opportunities within the country.

The comments have since sparked conversations online, with mixed reactions from supporters and critics of his views.
