NCSP reaffirms strong Nigeria-China strategic partnership based on mutual trust

NCSP says Nigeria and China partnership is built on mutual respect and trust, strengthening cooperation in trade, infrastructure, and industrial development

The Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP) has reaffirmed that relations between Nigeria and China remain firmly anchored on mutual respect, sovereign equality, trust, and shared strategic interests.

The Director-General of the NCSP, Joseph Tegbe, stated that the partnership has continued to deepen since diplomatic relations were established in 1971, stressing that both countries share a long-standing commitment to non-interference and respect for sovereignty.

He noted that Nigeria’s position on the One-China Principle remains consistent across successive administrations, describing it as a settled national policy rooted in international law and diplomatic agreements.

Tegbe referenced the 2024 bilateral meeting between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing, where both countries reaffirmed their strategic alignment and commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation.

According to him, Nigeria has consistently recognised the Government of the People’s Republic of China as the sole legal authority representing China, while supporting China’s stance on national reunification.

He also highlighted the role of the National Assembly in reinforcing Nigeria’s diplomatic position, noting that legislative support has further strengthened institutional continuity in the bilateral relationship.

The NCSP boss said the partnership has already delivered tangible results in infrastructure development, including railways, ports, energy systems, telecommunications, and industrial projects across Nigeria.

He added that the next phase of cooperation will focus on expanding industrialisation through investment in manufacturing, digital economy, solid minerals, agro-processing, and export-driven production.

Tegbe stressed that the goal is to move beyond infrastructure financing toward deeper economic transformation that aligns with Nigeria’s long-term development priorities.

The NCSP maintained that with structured collaboration and sustained trust, the Nigeria-China relationship can deliver greater economic value and strengthen Nigeria’s position as a leading African economy.
