Fubara Issues Warning

Fubara APC withdrawal reshapes Rivers politics as governor exits primary race and backs party unity ahead of 2027 election

Siminalayi Fubara has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress governorship primary election in Rivers State, declaring his readiness to support whoever emerges as the party’s candidate.

The Rivers governor announced his decision in a personally signed statement issued on Wednesday, describing the move as difficult but necessary following extensive consultations with family members, friends and political associates.

“After deep reflection and extensive consultations with my family, friends and associates, I have taken the difficult but necessary decision to withdraw from the APC governorship primaries,” Fubara stated.

“I do so with a full heart and with a firm commitment to support whoever emerges as the candidate of our great party,” he added.

The Fubara APC withdrawal comes amid intensifying political realignments and growing tension ahead of the party’s governorship primaries in the oil-rich state.

Although the governor did not provide detailed reasons for his withdrawal, political observers believe the development could significantly alter the balance of power within the APC ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Fubara, however, insisted that his decision was guided by the need to preserve unity and stability within the party.

The governor also appealed to his supporters and political loyalists to remain calm and continue supporting the APC as the party moves into the next phase of its electoral process.

The unexpected withdrawal is expected to trigger fresh political calculations within Rivers APC structures, where competition for the governorship ticket has intensified in recent months.

Analysts say the decision could influence ongoing alignments among party stakeholders and reshape the contest ahead of the 2027 elections.
