Aisha announced her withdrawal from the FCT Senate primary race after her party decided not to conduct senatorial primaries in Abuja

A political aspirant identified simply as Aisha has announced her withdrawal from the Federal Capital Territory Senate race after her party resolved not to conduct primary elections for the senatorial seat in Abuja ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The announcement was made in a message addressed to supporters on Thursday, where the aspirant urged party members and loyalists to remain calm and continue focusing on the broader political objective of the forthcoming presidential election.

According to the statement, the party leadership decided against conducting primaries for the FCT senatorial position while proceeding with primary elections for House of Representatives seats.

“Our party has decided not to conduct primaries for the Senatorial seat in FCT Abuja. It however intends to conduct primaries for House of Representatives,” the message stated.

Despite the setback, Aisha expressed appreciation to supporters for their commitment to the #AishaForSenate campaign project, describing their support as remarkable and encouraging throughout the political process.

The aspirant also appealed to supporters not to lose faith in the wider political movement, insisting that national interest and democratic progress remained more important than individual ambition.

“I urge each and every one of you to remain calm and focus on the bigger picture, which is the presidential election. Nigeria will be OK,” the statement added.

As part of efforts to sustain political engagement, Aisha disclosed plans to embark on another round of visits across the six area councils of the Federal Capital Territory in the coming week.

The visits, according to the statement, are aimed at appreciating residents and supporters for their warm reception and continued encouragement during the campaign period.

The development has generated discussions among party supporters within the FCT, especially as political alignments and internal negotiations continue ahead of the 2027 elections.

Observers say the decision not to hold the FCT Senate primary race could influence political calculations within the territory, particularly among aspirants and party stakeholders seeking elective positions.

Aisha, however, maintained an optimistic tone in the statement, pledging to continue working towards what was described as a “Better FCT” despite the unexpected turn in the party’s internal process.
