Peter Obi donation claim dispute deepens as the former Labour Party candidate challenges Arabambi to provide evidence of missing funds

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has challenged Labour Party chieftain Abayomi Arabambi to provide evidence supporting allegations that campaign donations from the 2023 general election were misappropriated, insisting that no funds are missing from accounts linked to his presidential bid.

Peter Obi made the remarks during an interview with broadcaster Rufai Oseni, who referenced claims by Arabambi that large sums donated to the Labour Party during the last election could not be accounted for.

Responding to the allegation, Obi dismissed the claim and maintained that anyone with evidence of wrongdoing should present it publicly or in court.

“If the so-called Arabambi can provide evidence from any account showing that even one per cent of what he alleged is missing, I or the 2027 election,” Obi said while responding to the accusation.

The former Anambra State governor further suggested that Arabambi could be joined in any legal proceedings arising from the allegation, arguing that the accuser should be prepared to substantiate the claims before a court of law.

“I may add him to the lawsuit so he can come to court and provide the evidence, just that he doesn’t have an address,” Obi added.

The Peter Obi donation claim dispute is the latest episode in a series of disagreements involving members and factions within the Labour Party following the 2023 presidential election.

Obi has consistently maintained that donations received during his presidential campaign were transparently managed and accounted for, while supporters have repeatedly called for evidence to back allegations of financial misconduct.

Neither Arabambi nor other Labour Party officials had publicly released documentary evidence supporting the claims at the time of reporting.

The comments come as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum, with internal party disputes and accountability issues increasingly becoming subjects of public debate.
