An 18-month-old toddler was brutally killed and beheaded in a shocking Ondo toddler beheading at Agoti farm settlement in Idanre LGA, prompting urgent appeals for justice as police detain a suspect

The father of the deceased toddler Bright Kalu, his wife, and officers of the Ondo State Police Command confronted a devastating loss in the Agoti farm settlement of Idanre Local Government Area, Ondo State, on or around Monday, June 15, 2026, when an unknown assailant attacked the family camp, abducted their 18-month-old daughter, and severed her head.

Bright Kalu, a peasant farmer originally from Abia State, returned from a nearby camp where he had gone to buy food items to find his wife in distress.

She recounted how an unidentified intruder stormed the settlement, attacked her, and made off with their youngest child while she protected their three other children.

The toddler’s body was later discovered with her head severed, sending waves of grief through the quiet farming community.

Kalu has appealed to the Ondo State Government, security agencies, and human rights organisations to ensure the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice.

Confirming the incident, Ondo State Police Command spokesperson DSP Abayomi Jimoh stated that detectives have arrested a suspect in connection with the crime.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances and whether others were involved.

The case was first reported at Olofin Police Station in Idanre before transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Akure.

This tragic event occurs against a backdrop of occasional violent crimes in remote farming settlements across Ondo State, where isolated communities sometimes face threats from criminal elements.

Such incidents often highlight vulnerabilities in rural security and the profound challenges faced by migrant farming families seeking better livelihoods.

Police have reassured the public of their commitment to thorough investigation while urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.

The family’s ordeal has stirred sympathy across the state, with many calling for enhanced protection for vulnerable groups in agricultural areas.
