VIDEO: Passenger captures bus driver appearing asleep before crash

A passenger’s video showing a minivan driver appearing to lose concentration behind the wheel before a crash has triggered widespread reactions and renewed discussions about road safety.

The footage, shared by Leadership News on social media, showed the driver appearing to struggle to remain alert while controlling the vehicle. Shortly afterwards, the minivan was involved in a crash.

Details about the location of the incident, the identity of the driver and the condition of passengers were not immediately available.

The video has attracted strong reactions from viewers, with some questioning the decision of the person recording the incident instead of alerting the driver or attempting to prevent the situation.

Udom Nyeneimeh Job criticised the passenger’s actions, arguing that recording the moment may have exposed other passengers to greater danger.

“I think the guy who captured this scene must be a big fool and joker for endangering his life and the lives of every passengers on board this minivan,” he wrote.

Another commenter, Saka Hammed, also expressed frustration over the passenger’s response, questioning why the individual continued filming during what appeared to be a dangerous situation.

“He’s an accomplice for manslaughering with the driver. What kind of dangerous rough play is this!” Hammed said.

Road safety experts have consistently warned that exhaustion, distraction and long hours on the road can increase the risk of accidents, particularly among commercial transport operators.

Drivers are encouraged to take proper rest breaks, avoid operating vehicles while fatigued and prioritise the safety of passengers and other road users.

The video has renewed public conversations around transport safety, passenger responsibility and the need for greater awareness among road users.
